Short Synopsis: | An inversion of the static, an ode to the artifice of film. On a conscious level, our intention was to create a piece of motion picture that is deeply atmospheric, leaning into the artifice of cinema. Something that would affect a bodily response with the use of incredibly elemental imagery and sound. Profoundly enriched by our desire to create, the piece is a synthesis and a homage to everything we love. We refined and coalesced those influences down into something concentrated and memorable. The desire was simple; expansive visuals filling corner to corner, a visage defiantly framed by symphonic sound and movement. This is an inversion of the zeitgeist of fashion films that portray models in necrotic-like poses. We wanted Sonya’s persona to embody raw physicality, her movements are measured yet sensuous. The topology of her body is projected outward, each element as an extension of her. All these components hijack your gaze for the entire runtime. Sonya’s persona is a subtle nod to heroines like Sarah Connor and Ellen Ripley. Unwaveringly confident and physically capable. Seductive, perhaps, but dangerous. We avoided excessive touch-ups during the shoot as they can seem restrictive, we wanted stylistic imperfections allowing Sonya’s hair to fall across her face. It’s interesting looking back at our process, because we actually found a lot of inspiration through big picture commercials of the past. So in a way we have fucked with the whole personal project thing and constructed something out of our ideas and experiences within the commercial fashion industry. The film is a collaboration between three brothers. |
